The German, who won the 2011 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp and the 2012 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot, is aiming to become the first non-Japanese to win the race since 2004.

Starke will line-up alongside Mirco Demuro - the man he will hope to emulate following the Italian's win in 2004, which completed a double following his triumph in 2003.

The Satsuki Sho is a Grade One flat race for three-year old thoroughbred colts and fillies run over a distance of 2,000 metres at the Nakayama Racecourse in Funabashi.
