Ascot 2:35 – Icespire 6/5 – 4pts
Easily the most popular horse with punters on Oddschecker overnight, the Frankel filly has already been backed into 6/5 favourite. She made a very strong impression when winning her only start to date at Salisbury over 7f last year and boasts a Group 1 entry for later in the season. Her trainer, John Gosden has been in red-hot form so far this season, excelling with his 3yo’s in particular and everything is aligned for Icespire to add to his list of early season winners.
Ascot 3:45 – Blue Point 6/4 – 2pts
Another very popular horse with Oddschecker users this morning, the current favourite for the Group 3 contest returns to action after 207 days off the track and is the one to beat on official ratings. The Godolphin colt showed strong form throughout his 2yo season including when landing the Group 2 Gimrack at York in August and ended the season with a strong showing behind current 2000 Guineas favourite Churchill in October.
Ascot 4:55 – Gerry The Glover 9/2 – 1pt
A three time winner from 5f to 1m on varying ground, the 5yo put in a promising performance on his seasonal reappearance at Pontefract nine days ago and runs today off a career-low mark. If building on that showing, the Brian Ellison-trained runner should put in a bold bid today in what looks an open race.
Pontefract 5:10 – Red Gunner 13/2 – 1pt
Given a break since going close at Newcastle in January for William Haggas, the form of that race has been boosted with the winner that day having gone in in again since. The form looks solid enough and David O’Meara’s new charge gets the vote in today’s modest company.
Yarmouth 6:50 – Commodity 4/6 – 3pts
Ryan Moore takes the ride on the short-priced favourite for master trainer Sir Michael Stoute. The 4yo put in a solid enough showing to win at Windsor nine days ago and has been raised just 2lb for that effort. After only four career starts he remains unexposed and should be capable of winning at a higher grade than this.
