HOT FOOTBALL GOSSIP: Chelsea and Man City ‘join Neymar race’

Having spent several months being linked with Manchester United, you can now add Chelsea and Manchester City to the list of clubs that Neymar won’t might sign for, according to the Express. The Barcelona star’s dad said the Brazilian player could leave Spain unless he gets a massive new contract and an endorsement of his tax affairs, which has apparently offered “encouragement” to United, City and Chelsea. But in reality it’s the kind of encouragement you get when a really hot girl complains about her really hunky boyfriend - and then about an hour later you see them snogging like wild animals. So United, Chelsea and City fans: prepare yourselves for that little setback.

The Red Devils are also said by the Sun to be targeting Germany’s “rising star” Leroy Sane, the 19-year-old Schalke winger who is apparently the best thing since sliced pumpernickel. Liverpool are also predictably being linked with the £12m-rated Sane because they’ve got a German manager who likes young players, but United are reportedly in pole position after having their top scout Peter Braun “camped out” at Schalke matches. Hopefully they gave him a sleeping bag.

Chelsea have made Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Alex Teixeira one of their top January targets, says the Evening Standard, but the Blues will have to pay “in excess of £30m” to sign the Brazilian. Teixeira, who recently said it would be “great” to sign for Chelsea, has scored an impressive 19 goals in 13 league games this season, so his price is going up every week.

Jose Mourinho is receiving less encouragement in the pursuit of another transfer window target, after Roberto Martinez made it clear John Stones would not be leaving Everton in January, reports the Mirror.

Arsenal and Liverpool are the first couple of Premier League clubs to be linked with Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after Talksport confirmed that the German club have “slapped a £42m price tag” on him. Sounds painful.

The Gunners are also interested in 23-year-old Genoa defender Armando Izzo (the Star) and Roma full-back Allesandro Florenzi (Talksport), although they could face competition from Barcelona for the latter Italian.

Aston Villa, Newcastle, Sunderland, Bournemouth and West Brom are the clubs targeting Charlie Austin today, says the Standard, although the QPR striker is worried about leaving Loftus Road and getting relegated again.

Finally, the Star reveals that Man Utd’s goalkeeping outcast Victor Valdes will seal a free transfer move to Espanyol in January. Unless Louis van Gaal decides at the last minute that he wants him to stick around at Old Trafford and clean the toilets.
