Hot Football Transfer Gossip: Aubameyang, Vidal, Icardi, Miranda, Depoitre, Dzeko

Today’s Hot Football Transfer Gossip is brought to you from a parallel universe, where it’s summer 2015 and Manchester United have just signed Juventus’ midfield general Arturo Vidal. Meanwhile, Louis van Gaal is optimistic about United’s title hopes and nobody at Old Trafford has heard of FC Midtjylland.

The Chilean has revealed in the Times that he was on the verge of moving to Manchester in the summer, only to opt to join Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich instead.

Up in Newcastle, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is on his way to the Bigg Market to celebrate another 20-goal season with his Magpies team-mates (we’re still in the parallel universe, by the way). The Gabonese goal getter has revealed that he was exceedingly close to moving to St James’s Park in summer 2013 in an interview with L'Equipe, kindly translated for us by the Newcastle Chroncile.

“St Etienne wanted to sell me to Newcastle but we opted for Dortmund, finalist in the Champions League because my father studied Jurgen Klopp’s game, even though the money was lower,” Aubameyang said.

But back in the cruel real world, Newcastle have still got Papiss Cisse playing up front, while Man Utd signed Bastian Schweinsteiger instead of Vidal. It’s all very sad.

However, there is hope, because Ed Woodward is trying to somehow redress the balance in his own weird way - by signing Aubameyang for £60m. The Independent repeats the claim that the Dortmund striker is the Red Devils’ number one summer target, regardless of who the club’s manager is.

Jose Mourinho is still under a strong impression it will be him, with the Manchester Evening News saying the Portuguese coach believes he has a "gentleman’s agreement” with Woodward that he will succeed Louis van Gaal. Which sounds solid enough, as long as Woodward is a gentleman.

In any case Mourinho is already signing up players, with Italian media reporting that - as well as getting Inter striker Mauro Icardi - he also wants to bring the Serie A club’s 31-year-old Brazilian centre-back Miranda to Old Trafford.

Tottenham remain in pole position to sign the slightly unexciting Gent striker Laurent Depoitre, says the Mirror, which reports that the £12m-rated 27-year-old is also being watched by West Ham, Crystal Palace, Leicester, Everton, West Brom and Southampton.

The Hammers, however, may sign Edin Dzeko instead. The Express reports that the Hammers are to make a “shock” swoop for the Bosnian forward, who has struggled for goals at Roma since being sent there on loan by Man City, but has still managed to net more times than Andy Carroll.
