Hot football transfer gossip: Bale not signing for Man Utd ‘ever’

It would be natural to expect that Real Madrid and Manchester United, in their position as two of the world’s premiere footballing institutions, would handle the fall-out from the David de Gea transfer saga with dignity and maturity.

In fact, the Spanish giants’ precise reaction has been to insist that Man Utd cannot play with any of their toys ever again EVER EVER EVER! At least that’s according to the Daily Star, which says the De Gea row has ruined United’s chances of signing Gareth Bale. Not in January, or next summer, but ever again.

The tabloid claims United will be “made to suffer” by Madrid, who will refuse to do business with them again. What either the Star or Madrid seem to have forgotten is that this policy would mean they won’t ever be able to sign their number one goalkeeper target: David de Gea.

All of which bolsters the Mirror’s claims that Louis van Gaal may be able to persuade his Spanish keeper to sign a new contract at Old Trafford. It says the club will make a final contract offer to De Gea in October, totalling more than Real were willing to pay him.

News is gradually filtering through of other sorry tales from deadline day, such as poor John Mikel Obi being denied a move to Turkish side Besiktas because Chelsea failed to seal a deal for Paul Pogba. A real like-for-like replacement that could have been for the Blues.

Everton had a deadline day bid for long-time target Andriy Yarmolenko rejected, says Talksport, which predicts that Barcelona will move for the Ukrainian winger in January.

Crystal Palace have accused Chelsea of “hijacking” their deal to sign Reading defender Michael Hector, according to the Express. Maybe Palace can try again in a couple of years after Hector has got bored with going out on loan all the time.

After failing to be granted a move in this transfer window, Southampton’s Victor Wanyama will bide his time before seeking an exit, says the Mail. The Kenyan is reportedly set to snub Saints’ offer of a new five-year contract and could move to Tottenham in January.

One man who would dearly love to join him at White Hart Lane, or anywhere really, is Saido Berahino. The West Brom striker has insisted he will not apologise to Baggies chairman Jeremy Peace over his naughty tweets, but the Telegraph says Berahino is at least “softening” on his threat to go on strike.
