Hot Football Transfer Gossip: Balotelli to China, Higuain to Juventus, Payet going nowhere

The most wonderful and most anxious day of the transfer window has arrived. The day when the dreams of players and clubs across the Premier League will either come true, or be crushed. Specifically, the dream that your club will sell a player for lots of money even though he is rubbish. Or, for players, the dream that you will become rich beyond your wildest dreams without having done anything to warrant it. We are of course talking about 15 July - the day when the Chinese Super League summer transfer window slams shut.

But the bad news for most Premier League clubs and players is that the only man currently being linked with a move to the Far East is Mario Balotelli.

Even that would be huge though. The Star reports that Liverpool are in talks with several Chinese clubs as they desperately seek to offload the eccentric Italian to the only league, they have concluded, that will take him.

The tabloid says the Reds could even recoup the £16m they paid for the striker two years ago, although presumably the Chinese negotiators will eventually work out the Anfield club would accept a lot less than that.

Although it’s already late afternoon in Beijing, there is surprisingly little other China-related Hot Football Transfer Gossip.

However, we can instead entertain ourselves with some crushingly disappointing news for Arsenal fans, which is that Gonzalo Higuain is set to reject the Gunners (again) and sign for Juventus instead.

The Mail reports that the Italian perma-champions are “closing in” on a “£58m plus players” deal for the ludicrously expensive Argentine striker. The players are Roberto Pereyra and Rolando Mandragora, who are apparently worth £23.2m, so the entire bid will meet Higuain’s £78.2m release clause. Decent money for a man who will be 29 this year.

Manchester City are still negotiating a price for Leroy Sane, who they were supposed to have been signing “this week” about two weeks ago. The Telegraph reports that City have offered £35m for the young German but his club Schalke value him at £42m.

Dimitri Payet has pledged that he is “100 per cent staying” at West Ham, so presumably his agent has told him that Real Madrid are not - and never have been - interested in bidding for him (Sun).

Everton’s new owners are so ambitious that they are prepared to flog James McCarthy to Stoke in order to replace him with someone better, suggest the Liverpool Echo. Toffees fans might prefer to see the someone better arrive first.

Elsewhere, Leicester have submitted their “final” £15m bid for Burnley defender Michael Keane (Metro), Burnley are already planning to spend £6m of it on Derby midfielder Jeff Hendrick (Mirror), Borussia Dortmund are keen on Stoke winger Xherdan Shaqiri (Stoke Sentinel).

Finally, Emanuele Giaccherini may have had a storming Euro 2016, but unfortunately for Sunderland fans they are still only going to get £1.2m for him from Napoli (ESPN). Even though they are about to sell Higuain for £78m. The world just isn’t fair sometimes.
