Hot Football Transfer Gossip: Barcelona ‘want Darmian’, Man City ‘will buy Carrick’

Matteo Darmian is looking better and better every week. Discarded by Jose Mourinho at the start of the season, the defender’s omission appeared to be a smart move as Manchester United won their first few games. But as the Red Devils have slumped down the table, Darmian’s stock has risen simply by virtue of not playing. And it’s got to the point where United’s 4-0 defeat to Chelsea was so bad that Darmian is now wanted by Barcelona. No, really.

The Mirror reports that the unwanted Italian full-back is a “shock target” for the Spanish champions and could secure a “dream move” to the Nou Camp. Maybe if United’s slide continues, Darmian will be able to lure Real Madrid and Bayern Munich into a bidding war for him too.

Another Man Utd star who is looking brilliant at the moment is Michael Carrick, who as an unused substitute at Stamford Bridge was one of the team’s best players. That’s put him in line for a big move too, with the Metro reporting that Manchester City will sign him in January.

We say the Metro, it’s actually Tim Sherwood who has created this piece of Hot Football Transfer Gossip all on his own. The Metro is just quoting him.

“Michael Carrick is the first name on a Premier League team sheet in my opinion. Man City will buy him in January,” declared the former Tottenham and Aston Villa manager in his new career as a one-man gossip machine. He’s good at it too.

Real Madrid are preparing a €100m euro bid for Juventus forward Paulo Dybala in 2018, which will probably amount to about £150m by then if the exchange rate continues on its current trajectory (AS). And maybe it means Real will sell Gareth Bale to Man Utd, yeah?

Meanwhile, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is putting his faith in youngsters to the ultimate test by signing a goalkeeper who is just 13 years old.

The Star reports that the Gunners are “keeping close tabs” on teenage shotstopper Lucas Kayombo, who plays for Parisian football club FC Solitaires and is also wanted by Paris Saint-Germain.

Elsewhere, Wenger could lose Santi Cazorla for nothing if the midfielder decides to sign a pre-contract agreement with Juventus in January (Mirror), Liverpool target Inaki Williams has no interest in signing for Jurgen Klopp’s team and wants to stay with Athletic Bilbao (Star) and Napoli striker Lorenzo Insigne is trying to secure himself a transfer to Anfield (Star). It’s always the ones you don’t fancy who fancy you.
