Hot football transfer gossip: Chelsea to buy Pedro, sell Terry

It’s so often the case that when you’re hurting, you take it out on the ones you love. And that certainly seems to be the case for Jose Mourinho if this morning’s hot football transfer gossip is to be believed. The Chelsea manager, reeling from the Blues’ calamitous start to the season, has reportedly resorted to stealing his best friend’s guy.

The friend in question is Mourinho’s former colleague and longtime buddy Louis van Gaal; the guy is Pedro - the Barcelona forward Manchester United have been courting for weeks. Mourinho suddenly wants the 27-year-old for himself and is set to cut Van Gaal’s lunch with a last-ditch bid, according to the Daily Mail.

Pedro has given United three days to sign him, report Spanish media, with Mourinho seemingly waiting in the wings with his arms outstretched and his cheque book open if things don’t work out.

An even bigger Mourinho love affair that could be about to end is his relationship with Blues captain John Terry, who the Mail are linking with a move to Turkish side Fenerbahce. Admittedly, this transfer scoop seems a bit on the flimsy side, with the Mail attempting to bolster its veracity by claiming Terry has “shown a willingness to move to Turkey in the past”. Yeah, on holiday.

Still on Chelsea, the Guardian contends that the Blues are so mad right now that they could be persuaded to stump up the £40m Everton are demanding for John Stones, although the Telegraph says the west Londonders may try to sweeten the deal by throwing in Victor Moses and Bertrand Traore on loan.

Manchester City are set to complete the £88m double signing of Nicolas Otamendi and Kevin de Bruyne, says the Daily Mirror. This is old news - all the Mirror have really done is some maths. Granted, it does sound like a lot of money when you add the figures up.

Arsenal are being linked with an “astonishing double raid” on PSG duo Edinson Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi, while West Brom have put a £25m price tag on Tottenham target Saido Berahino.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth are plotting a move for Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe, Kieran Richardson is being tipped to leave Aston Villa and Joey Barton has found a club that will take on his considerable talents in the shape of Nottingham Forest.
