Hot Football Transfer Gossip: Everton ‘launch bids’ for Koulibaly, Rugani and Mata

In Hot Football Transfer Gossip terms, Everton have already achieved their goal of becoming one of the big boys of English football as they are linked with multi-million pound swoops on a daily basis. The only problem is that in real life, they haven’t actually signed anyone except a goalkeeper from Fulham.

But still, threatening to buy players - even if you don’t buy them - is at least progress, and the Toffees are making a lot of progress today.

The Liverpool Echo reports that the Toffees have launched an “audacious mega-money bid” to hijack Chelsea’s signing of Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

The Blues (the London ones) are apparently ready to pay “in excess of £35m” for the 25-year-old Senegal international, but the Toffees are willing to pay even more in excess of it - all the way up to the £42m that the Serie A club are demanding.

And will Everton get him? No, he’ll probably go to Chelsea, admits the Echo.

But if that move doesn’t come off, Italian site Calcio Mercato claims Ronald Koeman has also made a £25.5m offer for 21-year-old Juventus defender Daniele Rugani.

And if that doesn’t come off either, the Toffees seem pretty determined to sign Juan Mata from Manchester United, although Spanish media say that they could face some stiff competition from Villarreal.

Either way, Everton’s excellent display in Hot Football Transfer Gossip continues.

Chelsea are also rather active today, with Sport reporting that the Blues are interested in signing Barcelona’s Turkish star Arda Turan, who is believed to be available for about £22m.

Antonio Conte is also said to be pondering a £34m swoop for Portugal’s Euro 2016-winning midfielder Joao Mario (A Bola) and a release-clause triggering £20m bid for Leicester’s Euro 2016-losing midfielder N'Golo Kante (Telegraph).

Tottenham will have to pay Inter Milan £43m if they want to buy striker Mauro Icardi (AS), while Spurs have been left to battle it out with Borussia Dortmund for Mario Gotze after Liverpool pulled out of the race to sign him (Liverpool Echo).

Newcastle have quickly capitalised on Moussa Sissoko’s strong finish to the Euros by bumping up his price tag to £35m, says the Independent.

And even Aston Villa are confident of offloading some relegated players, with Scott Sinclair a £2m target for Celtic (Telegraph) and Idrissa Gueye in talks to sign for Marseille for £7.1m (Sky Sports).

Elsewhere, the Villans are tracking Bristol City forward Jonathan Kodjia (Birmingham Mail), Manchester City want to sign Atletico Madrid defender Lucas Hernandez for £20m (Sun) and Graziano Pelle’s move to China will see him earn £260,000 a week to become the sixth highest player in the world (Sun).

And last but certainly not least, the Sun reports that Liverpool could be about to pull off the most sensational transfer swoop of the summer by signing 39-year-old former Arsenal goalkeeper Alex Manninger. Lolz.
