HOT FOOTBALL TRANSFER GOSSIP: Liverpool ‘target former Man Utd star’

Liverpool have had rough luck with injuries in attack over the past couple of seasons, with Daniel Sturridge, Christian Benteke and Danny Ings all spending more time in the treatment room than on the pitch, so perhaps it makes perfect sense that the Reds want sign another injury-prone striker to add to their collection.

Fiorentina’s Giuseppe Rossi, one of Europe’s unluckiest men, will be the subject of an £18m Anfield bid in January, reports the Star. Which sounds like quite a lot of money for a player who hasn’t scored a league goal for two years. Admittedly that’s not really his fault, as he has only played a handful of games in that time due to his dodgy right knee. That’s the same knee that fell apart in 2011, and in 2012. To be fair to the former Manchester United youngster, in between the periods of being injured he has been brilliant. Rossi was the top scorer in Serie A before his latest injury, scoring 16 goals in 21 games for Fiorentina in 2013/14. According to the Star, Rossi’s agent has described him as “like a dog chasing his tail”, whatever that means.

Other strikers tipped to be on the move in January include Celta Vigo’s Nolito, who the Mirror says is more likely to join Arsenal than Barcelona in January because the Catalans can’t afford him, even though he would only cost £15m.

The Gunners may be tempted to have a crack instead at Adrien Rabiot, who the Express reports has demanded a January move from Paris Saint-Germain due to a lack of playing time. The 20-year-old has also been linked with Tottenham, West Ham, Barcelona, Inter and most other clubs in the world.

Watford are targeting Italy international Simone Zaza to augment their already impressive strike force, claims the Mirror. The 24-year-old Juventus striker was wanted by West Ham in the summer, but they somehow ended up with Nikica Jelavic instead. Stoke and Norwich are also believed to be keen.

In more striker news, Aston Villa’s forgotten man Libor Kozak is wanted by Celtic, the Birmingham Mail optimistically reports. And in right-back news, the Mirror says Everton and Sunderland are the latest clubs to be linked with Leeds United’s £8m-rated starlet Sam Byram.

In Hatem Ben Arfa news, Hatem Ben Arfa is a target for Borussia Dortmund, reports the Newcastle Chronicle. And finally, in Stoke, Liverpool and Jack Butland news, Sky Sports say that Jack Butland has dismissed speculation linking him with a move from Stoke to Liverpool.
