Hot Football Transfer Gossip: Lukaku to Chelsea, Mane to Arsenal, Gotze to Liverpool
Chelsea’s loan model, where the Blues sign the most promising young players in the world and then send them on loan to increase their value, is by now famous within football. Here’s an example of how it works: Chelsea sign 18-year-old for £17m, send him on loan, he scores loads of goals, they sell him for £28m, he scores even more goals, they buy him back for £65m. Genius.
That’s how it’s going to work with Romelu Lukaku anyway, according to the Mail on Sunday, which reports that Roman Abramovich is ready a sanction a transfer that would effectively see his club making a £37m loss on the big Belgian. Lukaku says he has “already decided” where he will play next season, although Everton may have also already decided to reject all Chelsea’s bids, a la John Stones, until Abramovich has to give them all his money and his favourite yacht.
Antonio Conte is also keen on Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, with Gazzetta dello Sport claiming that the Blues are “formalising a concrete offer” of about £20m for the 24-year-old Senegalese international, who is very excited about the news because he “only earns £800,000 per season” and is forced to live in poverty in the southern Italian city.
Leicester are determined to sign a winger from Arsenal, according the Sunday Mirror, which says Claudio Ranieri sees Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as the “ideal man to strengthen his squad”. Last week he apparently thought exactly the same about Theo Walcott.
The paper says the Gunners are ready to flog the Ox and replace him with Southampton’s Sadio Mane, for whom Arsene Wenger is considering a £17m bid - although that’s almost certainly less than Saints have rejected for Mane from other clubs in the past.
Southampton could in turn replace Mane with Anderlecht midfielder Dennis Praet, says the Mail on Sunday. The 22-year-old is available for about £10m because he only has one year left on his contract and is also wanted by Sevilla, Fiorentina, Everton and Leicester.
Manchester United have given up trying to sign Portuguese midfielders and will instead buy a Polish one, says the Sun on Sunday. Sevilla’s Grzegorz Krychowiak is said to be a £30m target for the Red Devils, although we have previously been told he was on the verge of moves to Arsenal and Everton and that turned out to be lies.
Elsewhere, Liverpool hope to tie up a £20m deal for Germany star Mario Gotze “in the next few days” (Sun), Mario Balotelli is a target for some Italian team called Crotone (Liverpool Echo) and Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has revealed that the club turned down a £31m bid from West Ham for Alexander Lacazette (Goal).
