Gossip: Man Utd 'to offer £60m for Morata', Chelsea 'to swap Matic for Bonucci', Tottenham 'raise Walker price to £60m'

Matic, Morata, Walker and Bonucci - all wanted and all on the move. Perhaps.
Matic, Morata, Walker and Bonucci – all wanted and all on the move. Perhaps.

Alvaro Morata and Nemanja Matic don’t appear to have much in common. They play in different positions, they ‘re from different countries, they like different types of music and even their skin is a different colour – Morata’s being similar to Nolito’s daughter pre-Manchester and Matic having a hue more like Nolito’s daughter post-Manchester.

But these two seemingly remote men do have one thing that binds them: The Real Madrid striker and the Chelsea defensive midfielder are both tragically under-appreciated by their clubs. And, despite winning the Premier League, LaLiga and the Champions League between them last season, they are now set to suffer the indignity of being sold.

The Guardian reports that Morata has emerged as Manchester United’s “primary target” after the collapse of the Red Devils’ move for Antoine Griezmann and Romelu Lukaku’s apparent preference for Chelsea.

So even then Morata is third choice but he’ll still get more love at Old Trafford than he does at the Bernabeu, where he was ordered to return last summer but has been used sparingly (in the big games, at least) ever since.

United are tipped to offer £60m for the 24-year-old Spaniard after seeing an initial bid of £52m rejected by Real, who value him at £78m but will probably accept less.

As for Matic, he will be used as a pawn in Chelsea’s ongoing attempt to prise Leonardo Bonucci away from Juventus. The Sun says the Serbian will be offered to the Italians as a makeweight, in addition to £48m in hard cash, for a player Juve value at £60m. In other words, Chelsea value their two-time title-winning midfielder at just £12m.

Meanwhile, Diego Costa has claimed that Blues manager Antonio Conte sent him a text message informing him he is no longer wanted at Stamford Bridge (Mirror). You can kind of understand why Conte might have been a bit scared to tell Costa that in person.

Tottenham have raised Kyle Walker’s price from £40m to £60m after seeing how much other defenders – Virgil can Dijk, for instance – are being valued at, says the Mirror. It’s otherwise known as ‘The Manchester City Tax’. And will Sheikh Mansour pay it? Probably. Hopefully Walker doesn’t have children or they could suffer the same fate as Nolito’s.

Elsewhere, Wayne Rooney is pricing himself out of a move to his former club Everton by refusing to take a pay cut from the extortionate wage he earns at Man Utd (Express), Tottenham will compete with Hoffenheim for Borussia Dortmund’s £15m-rated German international defender Matthias Ginter (Independent) and Liverpool have made an enquiry for Sporting Lisbon’s £50m-rated winger Gelson Martins (Mirror). It was all above board though, they promise.
