Gossip: Man Utd 'will let De Gea leave', Eriksen linked with Barcelona, Liverpool 'target £50m Van Dijk'

David de Gea is lovely, but it will be a relief when he finally goes to Real Madrid won’t it? A relief for him, who clearly wants to move to the Bernabeu; a relief for you, who has to repeatedly read about him moving to the Bernabeu; a relief for the Manchester United fans who have spent two years wondering whether their goalkeeper will stick around; and a relief for Jose Mourinho, who reportedly can no longer be bothered trying to persuade him to stay.

The Mirror says the Red Devils manager has told De Gea he can leave this summer because he does “not want to keep any player at Old Trafford against their will”. Even Mourinho, the world’s most competitive man, has given up on this one.

But, being the world’s most competitive man, he is still planning to make it interesting by insisting he will “not let any player depart for less than their market value”, which in De Gea’s case will be £60m.

But actually, Real will probably be quite happy to pay that, so it might not be as interesting as Mourinho hopes.

And to make matters even less palatable for Jose, the Express says Real will not let him have either Alvaro Morata or James Rodriguez in exchange for De Gea, and that if he wants either of those players he will have to “bid separately”. Which sounds a bit needlessly oppressive, especially when they want to sell those players anyway. Real Madrid are sooo annoying sometimes.

Interest

Also, Rodriguez actually wants to move to Old Trafford, according to the Star, which says the Colombian has “made up his mind” to sign for United despite interest from Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino yesterday insisted that he will not be selling any of his first-team players this summer, but Frank de Boer doesn’t care. The Holland legend has predicted that Christian Eriksen, his former Ajax player, is ready to make the step up to Barcelona, his former club (Express). He doesn’t actually have any say in Barca’s transfer policy though, to be fair, so it doesn’t really matter what he thinks.

Liverpool are ready to literally “shatter their transfer record” to sign Virgil van Dijk from Southampton, says the Liverpool Echo. Man City, Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton want the Dutchman too, but the Reds are ready to pay £50m for him. That’s even more than they paid for Andy Carroll, so Van Dijk must be even better than him!

Elsewhere, Crystal Palace and West Ham are set to engage in a “tug of war” for soon-to-be-relegated Sunderland defender Lamine Kone (Mirror), Lyon want to take Anthony Martial on loan from Man Utd next season (Talksport) and Chelsea and United target Andrea Belotti says he is not worth the £84m price tag Torino have placed on his head (Metro). It’s unlikely to dissuade the Premier League duo from paying it though.
