Hot Football Transfer Gossip: Pogba, Aubameyang, Cavani, Toure, Lewandowski

“Guardiola to fight Zidane” is the arresting headline on the top page of the Sport website today – and you wouldn’t give the debonair Spaniard much chance against the head-butting Frenchman in that duel. This is bad news for any Manchester City fans hoping to see Paul Pogba at the Etihad next season, because that’s who the two men are apparently fighting over.

Zidane has apparently had his eye on the Juventus midfielder since becoming manager at the Bernabeu earlier this season, but he is perturbed to find he has “competition” from Guardiola, who apparently believes Pogba will be the “key cog” in City’s future.

Unfortunately for Zidane, this contest is unlikely to be settled by headbutts but more likely with charm and money – and City have no shortage of the latter. Sport says the Premier League side will offer £80m for Pogba for starters and then see what happens.

Zidane could be hampered by simultaneously having fights will several other Premier League managers, such as Arsene Wenger and Jurgen Klopp, over the Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. But according to German newspaper Bild, he has already won that one. The paper says Real have agreed to sign the Gabonese goal machine for £54.9m plus striker Alvaro Morata, who they are planning to buy back from Juventus and immediately flog.

In yet another blow for England-based managers, Juventus could replace Morata with Edinson Cavani, who is apparently wanted by most of the Premier League. Talksport says the Italians are set to offer the Paris Saint-Germain striker a three-year, £16m contract in order to see off interest from Arsenal and Manchester United.

Other players who might reject overtures to come to England include Robert Lewandowski, who is expected to sign a new contract at Bayern Munich (Bild) and Renato Sanches, who may stay at Benfica despite Man Utd making a £47m bid (Telegraph).

Meanwhile, several other players are being tipped to leave the Premier League. Man City’s Yaya Toure will move to either Bayern Munich, Juventus or PSG (Sun), Man Utd are prepared to “listen to offers” for defender Marcos Rojo (Mirror) and – most disturbingly of all – John Mikel Obi Mikel has threatened to quit Chelsea if he is not guaranteed a regular role next season (Goal). Being selected by Guus Hiddink for a few games has really gone to his head.

This all begs the question, will there be any players left in the Premier League next season? The answer is yes, there will.

Chelsea are going to sign Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan for £35m (Standard), Arsenal or Everton will finally land Ukrainian winger Andriy Yarmolenko (Mirror), Liverpool will swoop for young River Plate striker Lucas Alario (ESPN) and West Ham are bringing in an 18-year-old Spanish kid called Toni Martinez from Valencia for £2.4m (Mail). Toni Martinez - he sounds like the kind of character who would be the football star in a Hollywood movie.
