Gossip: Real Madrid 'on Kane alert', Lucas Moura 'advised to join Arsenal', Chelsea 'want Barkley'

Harry Kane, as Tottenham fans will tell you at every opportunity, is one of their own. He grew up in Chingford, with Steffen Freund posters on his wall and Chas and Dave blasting off the CD player. He thinks Ledley King is better than Bobby Moore and that Gerry Francis’ mullet is acceptable.

So does that mean he would never have his head turned by a lucrative move to a bigger club? Certainly not, according the tabloid media’s interpretation of his latest comments.

“Harry Spain” shrieks the back page of the Express – and the back page of the Star – after the England striker “refused to rule out” a move to La Liga following reported interest from Real Madrid.

When asked about a possible Spurs exit in the future, he replied, “I would never say no. I would never say yes.”

What an inscrutable philosopher he is. But would he say maybe? Yes.

“I think in football, you never know and you never rule out anything. It is not something that I definitely want to do but it could happen. You just never know,” he elaborated.

The honest ramblings of a football realist, or the treacherous precursor to a transfer request?

That cannot be answered yet, but according to the Star it has put Real “on alert”. Whatever that actually means.

Spurs battle Chelsea for Barkley

Spurs are also being linked once again with a move for Ross Barkley, with the Mirror reporting that Lillywhites boss Mauricio Pochettino is planning to offer the Everton midfielder “a late passport to the World Cup finals”.

You can’t just rock up and get these from the Foreign Office, unfortunately. You have to be moulded and nurtured by The Poch for at least six months until your full footballing potential is realised. Alternatively, Barkley could go to Chelsea and probably earn more money.

Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain’s summer spending spree has made a dizzying array of attacking midfielders available for transfer.

Theo Walcott has emerged as an Inter target – apparently

Lucas Moura has been “advised to join Arsenal” by his fellow Brazilian – and former Chelsea defender – Alex (Star), Chelsea and Liverpool are keen on £26m-rated Argentinian Javier Pastore, who has been told he can leave the Parc des Princes (Talksport) and Adrien Rabiot has “dropped a major hint” that he would like play for the Reds, saying he was “very fond of Liverpool when I was young” (Mirror). He’s allegedly a massive fan of Andriy Voronin.

Elsewhere, Internazionale are planning a shock January move for Arsenal’s Theo Walcott (Talksport), Manchester City will beat Manchester United to the signing of New York City’s England Under-21 winger Jack Harrison (Sun) and Bayern Munich are set to appoint 72-year-old Jupp Heynckes as their new coach after sacking Carlo Ancelotti (Bild). So that’s yet another job that passed Alan Curbishley by.
