Gossip: Real Madrid 'plotting' Alli swoop, Guardiola 'targets' Barcelona midfielder, Liverpool linked with Schalke sensation

There could be all sorts of reasons that Dele Alli has decided to leave the Impact Sports Management agency.

Maybe he just felt like a change, maybe he didn’t like the decor in their office, maybe he’s perturbed that the company’s official website is permanently “under maintenance”. All quite innocent reasons – nothing for Spurs fans to worry about.

But it’s also just possible the Tottenham midfielder has opted to switch representation midway through a football season because he is itching for a transfer. And this latter possibility would reportedly be music to the ears of Real Madrid.

The Star – via prestigious Spanish sports journal Don Balon – claims the European champions are “cooking up a swap deal” to bring the 21-year-old Englishman to the Bernabeu in January.

The ingredients of the deal are quite simple – it’s Real’s fringe midfielder Mateo Kovacic, plus some money. But it’s a recipe that may sound a bit yucky to Daniel Levy.

The Spurs chairman is reportedly “reluctant” to lose Alli in the middle of the season – which sounds like something of an understatement – but this is where the player’s change of representation could make things dicey.

Dele is apparently being courted by “super agents” Jorge Mendes and Mino Raiola, the kind of characters who only tend to be interested when there’s a big-money transfer cut in the offing.

Maybe this is a good moment for Danny Rose to start Googling Mateo Kovacic.

Guardiola plans £35m raid

Manchester City are also making plans to strengthen their squad in January, according to Calciomercato. The Italian website says City boss Pep Guardiola wants to bring Barcelona midfielder Sergi Roberto to the Etihad and is willing to meet the player’s £35m release clause.

Manchester United have previously been linked with the versatile 25-year-old, which is probably reason alone for City to buy him.

Liverpool are the latest club linked with a move for Schalke sensation Leon Goretska. The Mirror – via German muck peddlers Bild – says the Reds will compete with Man Utd, Chelsea, Barcelona and Bayern Munich to sign the 22-year-old midfielder who is out of contract at the end of the season. Arsenal want him too, but the Mirror hasn’t even bothered mentioning them.

Elsewhere, Man Utd are set to offer David de Gea a new contract to ward off continued interest from Real Madrid (Independent), Everton and Liverpool are battling to sign 19-year-old Charlton centre-back Ezri Konsa (Sun) and West Ham are interested in 23-year-old SPAL defender Fransesco Vicari (Calciomercato). SPAL is an Italian football team by the way, just in case you thought it was some kind of processed meat product being used to construct new footballers.
