HOT FOOTBALL TRANSFER GOSSIP: Ronaldo, Bale, Mane, Van Persie

Few people would have watched Barcelona’s demolition of Real Madrid in El Clasico with more animated excitement than Ed Woodward, who may now believe himself to be one step closer to pulling off the megatransfer that will transform his reputation. With each Gareth Bale scuff and Cristiano Ronaldo tantrum, Manchester United’s chief executive would have seen his chances of signing both players ever so slightly increase. And according the Sun, the “full-blown crisis” at the Bernabeu has put Woodward on “red alert” and “ready to pounce”.

Bale was judged the worst player on the pitch by a Marca poll, in which Woodward probably voted about 100 times, although the Sun’s so-called “insider” reckons United’s best chance of signing Bale is if Real president Florentino Perez is forced to resign.

Ronaldo was voted the second worst player in El Clasico by Marca, and the Telegraph says the Portuguese forward will also apparently be on his bike unless manager Rafael Benitez is sacked by Perez. Unfortunately for Woodward, the chances of Benitez keeping his job until Christmas - let alone the end of the season - seem slimmer than a slim Spanish waiter. “Either he goes, or I go,” is what Ronaldo reportedly said about the former Liverpool manager following Saturday’s 4-0 defeat. And there aren’t many who would back Benitez in that showdown.

If Woodward’s track record is anything to go by, rather than signing Bale or Ronaldo he will end up settling for Southampton’s Sadio Mane. However, the Express reports that the Saints are still hopeful of tying down the Senegalese forward to a new deal, amid interest from United and also Chelsea.

Liverpool are favourites to sign Lazio captain Lucas Biglia, according to Spanish lads Fichajes, although the Reds will face competition from Real Madrid. Jurgen Klopp may also have been encouraged that West Ham winger Manuel Lanzini, who is on loan at Upton Park from Al Jazira Club, has described it as “an honour” to be linked with Liverpool, reports the Independent.

If Daniele Rugani doesn’t move to the Premier League in January it will be extremely upsetting, because once again the Juventus reserve defender is being linked with a move to Arsenal and Manchester United and therefore forcing Hot Football Transfer Gossip to cover it.

Finally, the Express reports that Robin van Persie is unhappy at his new club Fenerbahce and could move back to Dutch club Feyenoord in January. Maybe this is the high-profile signing Ed Woodward could make if he fails to snare to Bale and Ronaldo.
