Hot Football Transfer Gossip: Teixeira, Remy, Costa, Martinez, Cahill, Berahino

If any top, top player is going to go for big, big money before this transfer window is yanked shut, it looks likely to be Alex Teixeira. The problem is that the money he will go for seems to be getting bigger and bigger and bigger. And bigger.

Having been linked with a £25m move to Chelsea a couple of months back, which rose to £30m at the start of the month, Liverpool stole a march on the Blues by offering £24.5m for the Brazilian playmaker, only to be told he was valued at a rather fanciful £38m. So the Reds threw in an extra £3m in add-ons and hoped that would be the end of it, but now Shakhtar Donetsk are apparently demanding - wait for it - £53.4m.

That’s according to the Liverpool Echo, which reports that the Ukrainian club have decided they don’t want to sell Teixeira for £39m anymore because Shakhtar coach Mircea Lucescu wants to keep him until the end of the season.

Chelsea since appear to have lost interest while they focus on ridding themselves of Loic Remy, who the Star says is set to move to Leicester after the clubs agreed an £11.5m fee - which would be a club record for the Foxes.

Guus Hiddink has also been offered the chance to show the door to Diego Costa and replace him with Atletico Madrid striker Jackson Martinez, claims the Sun. Atletico boss Diego Simeone apparently dreamed up the swap deal, which doesn’t look especially appealing for the Blues given the respective recent form of Costa (lethal) and Martinez (dreadful).

Hiddink is also set to deny Gary Cahill the chance to leave the club, reports the Evening Standard. The Dutchman insisted that the defender is “very happy” at Stamford Bridge, despite widespread reports that he isn’t.

West Brom continue to find reasons not to sell poor old Saido Berahino, who the Express and Star reports will be denied a move to Newcastle because the Baggies don’t want to sell to a club that could overtake them in the league table. The club have already ruled out selling to Spurs because they think Daniel Levy is a chief.

Elsewhere, Swansea have offered Crystal Palace £7m for Dwight Gayle (Daily Mail), Everton winger Aiden McGeady is poised to move to Sevilla on loan (Guaridan), West Ham are considering a bid for Sunderland’s Steven Fletcher (Telegraph) and Arsenal are set to snap up a 17-year-old Nigerian midfielder called Kelechi Nwakali from the Diamond Football Academy (Standard).

Finally, if there’s anyone out there who wants to sign Charles N'Zogbia then Aston Villa would love to hear from you - the only catch is that you’ll probably have to pay him £63,000-a-week. The Mirror reports that the £9.5m Frenchman is refusing to be paid off for anything less than the full value of his lucrative contract. And why should he, after all he’s done for that club.
