Hot Football Transfer Gossip: Terry, Buffon, Valdes, Carvahlo

If you’d asked John Terry four months ago if he fancied a move to the Chinese league, he would have said, “China?! No chance mate. I just won the league ain’t I? Club captain. Legend. Best team in the land. Want to lift that Champions League next year – and actually play in it so people stop doing them poxy internet memes about me. China?! Mickey Mouse league. Never leaving the Chels. I’m the guv’nor round here.”

But things have changed since then – pretty much all the things. Except China is still on the table if Terry wants it, with today’s Mirror claiming that several clubs want to lure him to the Far East, and they don’t mean back to Barking. With a lucrative contract on offer, his Chelsea place currently occupied by Kurt Zouma and the dwindling prospects of lifting more trophies, China may seem a more attractive prospect now. Plus, the Mirror reports that Terry was a “huge hit” in the country when he went to the city of Guangzhou on an ambassadorial tour in the summer. They absolutely love him out there. He’s bigger than spring rolls. They probably think he’s a classic English gentleman, related to Prince Harry. Plus, the wages are obscene. Starting to sound less Mickey Mouse, JT?

Chelsea are also set to sign a goalkeeper to provide back-up to Asmir Begovic, with the Guardian reporting that former Milan shotstopper Marco Amelia is expected to move to Stamford Bridge on a short-term deal.

There are far more exciting goalkeeping options potentially available though, with the Metro reporting that Italy legend Gianluigi Buffon fancies a move to the Premier League.

Even more intriguingly, the Mail says Man Utd are willing to rip up Victor Valdes’s contract immediately. So he could feasibly move from Man Utd’s reserves to Chelsea’s reserves. The only snag, according to the paper, is that United may stipulate that Valdes can’t join a rival Premier League club after leaving Old Trafford. Saying that, United are top and Chelsea are 14th, so they’re hardly rivals.

The Blues have also joined the chase for Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvahlo, according to the Metro. The Portuguese defensive midfielder has been linked with Arsenal and Liverpool in the past, but Chelsea have more money than them.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are targeting 14-year-old PSV defender Aboubacar Kone, Everton have taken former AC Milan and Espanyol right-back Felipe Mattioni on trial and – in distressing news – Cartlon Cole’s proposed move to Celtic is “in jeopardy” after the former West Ham striker got injured while training with the club. Be more careful, Carlton!
