Hot Football Transfer Gossip: Terry and Lampard 'to save Swansea', Chelsea 'target Vidal', Liverpool 'swoop for Oxlade-Chamberlain'

Cockneys or Welshmen? That’s the question Swansea’s owners are pondering as they choose a successor to sacked manager Bob Bradley.

A couple of Wales legends, Chris Coleman and Ryan Giggs, are believed to be on the shortlist to rescue the Premier League’s 19th-placed club.

The Guardian says Coleman is top of that list and “could soon find himself at the centre of a club versus country tug-of-war”, while the Star says Swans chairman would prefer to give the job to Giggs.

But the Swans could go cockney instead, with the Telegraph reporting that Harry Redknapp – the most cockney man in football – is interested in the job. And he could bring a couple of his Laaandan mates with him.

The respected wheeler-dealer football manager is tipped to bring Chelsea captain John Terry and free agent Frank Lampard to Wales with him if he lands the job – a plan that “could prove tempting” to the Swans board.

Either way, it shouldn’t matter too much as long as they don’t appoint another American.

The departure of Terry would mark the end of an era for Chelsea, although one feels that Antonio Conte wouldn’t really care about that. He’s more interested in buying some new midfielders.

The Star says Conte is set to reignite his interest in Roma’s Radja Nainggolan in January with a £51m bid, but that he has a back-up plan to sign Bayern Munich’s Arturo Vidal for £38.2m if the Nainggolan offer is rejected, which it probably will be.

Conte has also had a £21m offer turned down for Franck Kessie, whose club Atalanta are demanding £34m for the man dubbed the “new Yaya Toure” (Guardian), while the Blues are still vying with Manchester City for Sevilla’s Steven Nzonzi (AS).

The Guardian says Liverpool are plotting a January move for Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, but that the deal could be hampered by “animosity” between the two clubs still hanging over from their last transfer negotiations – when the Gunners infamously tried to sign Luis Suarez for £40m plus £1 in a bid to cunningly activate his release clause in 2013. So you can expect a £25m plus £1 bid for the Ox as soon as the transfer window opens.

Liverpool are also said to be one of several clubs interested in Paris Saint-Germain forward Jese Rodriguez (La Provincia), while Arsenal are said to have received enquires for their off-colour right-back Carl Jenkinson, who looks certain to leave the Emirates in the coming days (Mirror).

Elsewhere, Manchester City are set to rival Barcelona for Borussia Dortmund’s 21-year-old midfielder Julian Weigl – who Pep Guardiola is “in love with” – in the summer (Sun), Valencia have made an opening bid of £13.5m for Man Utd defender Marcos Rojo (Calciomercato) and Swansea want to re-sign Queens Park Rangers defender, and well-known cockney, Steven Caulker next week (ESPN). That will be music to Redknapp’s ears.
