Hot Football Transfer Gossip: West Brom ‘battle Milan giants for Sakho’, Man Utd ‘target Gimenez, Lindelof’

Mamadou Sakho is back! He imperiously marshalled Liverpool’s U23 side to a 2-0 win against Reading last week and even managed to get on the scoresheet. But the fact this was the highlight of his Reds season so far is probably the biggest indicator yet that he needs to leave Anfield as soon as possible.

The French defender followed up his match-winning display against the Royals reserves by posting a Rocky-style training montage on his Facebook page. That’s how ridiculous his life has become. But there are some teams who will be more than happy to lead him back to normality.

The phrase “West Brom are in a three-way transfer tussle with AC Milan and Inter Milan” is not something you would have expected to hear 20 years ago, but in the Premier League era it’s standard.

And the Mirror suggests Sakho may actually be considering choosing the Baggies ahead of the Italian giants. Tony Pulis tried and failed to buy the 26-year-old in the summer, but Sakho probably now wishes he just went to the Hawthorns. (But then again if he had, he would never have had that glorious night against Reading.)

Manchester United have been linked with most of the world’s centre-backs except Sakho. The latest of them is Jose Gimenez, who the Mirror says United are “reportedly ramping up their plans to sign Atletico Madrid’s Jose Gimenez is ramping up again” - whatever that means.

The paper goes on to say that “a fee of between £34 and £43m is said to be in Atleti’s ball park”. What on earth are they talking about, actually?

Jose Mourinho is also considering making a bid for Benfica defender Victor Lindelof, according to O Jogo. And although the story is in Portuguese, it makes more sense than the one about Gimenez in the Mirror.

Football’s biggest flirt Antoine Griezmann is teasing his suitors again, saying on Goal that he has ruled out a move to Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain but would be open to a move to Barcelona or the Premier League. So now United, Chelsea and Arsenal all think he likes them.

Elsewhere, Arsenal are planning to send striker Chuba Akpom out on loan with Cardiff and Fulham interested (Mirror), Everton want to sign FC Copenhagen midfielder Thomas Delaney despite him already having agreed to move to Werder Bremen in January (Liverpool Echo) and Wayne Rooney is “considering a selfie ban” after being photographed drunk (allegedly) on England duty (Mirror). Bet that goes out of the window as soon as Kim Kardashian asks him for one.
