Houston aware of Motherwell threat

Dundee United manager Peter Houston has dismissed talk of a Motherwell slump - because they have too many good players for it to happen.

The Steelmen have suffered three defeats in a row in the SPL and lost their grip on third place to Hearts, albeit they have two games in hand over the Edinburgh side. Motherwell set a high standard at the start of the campaign and Houston, whose United side host them at Tannadice this weekend, believes it won't be long before they are back in that form.

He said: "Motherwell were fantastic against us at Tannadice earlier in the season so we won't be underestimating them. Their form has dipped a wee bit but with the quality they have in their squad that won't last because they are a very good side."

He added: "They have goal threats from all over the park and are one of the toughest teams to play outside the Old Firm.

"The last game we played down there was ruined by the wind, which made it impossible to play any sort of football, so I'm expecting a much better game for the fans this time round."

That is a view echoed by defender Sean Dillon, who does not want to see a repeat of the high-scoring encounters the teams have played out in the past.

He said: "There have been plenty of goals in this game in the past but from a defenders point of view I just hope we are the ones scoring them.

"The last time we played the match was ruined by the weather so hopefully conditions will be a lot calmer this weekend.

"Motherwell are having a really good season and deserve to be where they are in the league.

"Our own form is good but we know we have to be at our very best to beat them."
