Huddersfield full-back Aidan McGowan has joined Championship club Batley on a season-long loan deal for the 2023 campaign.
The youngster has yet to make his first team debut for the Giants. However, he has enjoyed successful loan spells in the Championship with York and Dewsbury.
McGowan scored three tries in seven games for Dewsbury in 2022. He has previously won international honours for Ireland’s Under-19s.
He will spend the 2023 campaign with the Bulldogs as he seeks to gain regular first team experience.
Aidan McGowan tipped to thrive in a successful Batley team
Huddersfield managing director Richard Thewlis said: “This is another good deal and opportunity for both player and club.
“We see Aidan as a having great potential to ultimately step up our Super League side and the top end of the Championship is the best place for him to continue his development next season.
“The reality here this year is we that have Will Pryce, Tui Lolohea and Jake Connor all of whom play the full-back role and of course as Ian (Watson) has said Kevin Naiqama also has experience there so Aidan’s opportunities would be limited.
“That said, we have the right to recall if needed during the course of the year. Aidan will continue to train with us and learn from the likes of all the above and hopefully enjoy an injury free season in what will again I am sure be a highly competitive and successful Batley side.”
Batley will begin their 2023 Championship campaign with a trip to the capital to face London Broncos at Plough Lane on Sunday, February 5.
