Erik ten Hag and Manchester United have been given a boost amid claims Fulham will be without one of their best players this weekend.

Manchester United host Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Thursday evening in the Carabao Cup third round. The Red Devils will be looking to get revenge after losing 3-1 to Villa in the Premier League on Sunday.

After the cup clash against Unai Emery’s side, Manchester United will travel to Craven Cottage to face Fulham in the league.

Before the season began, many tipped Fulham to go straight back down to the Championship. This is what they have done the last two times they have been in the top flight.

However, Marco Silva’s men have impressed during their 14 league outings so far. They have won five of them and drawn another four.

Fulham held Liverpool to a 2-2 draw on the opening day of the season. And they have since picked up notable victories against the likes of Brighton, Aston Villa and Leeds.

One of the main reasons for their success is the form of magic trio Aleksandar Mitrovic, Andreas Pereira and Harrison Reed.

Mitrovic has brought his deadly Championship form up to the Prem, Andreas is the source of most of their creativity and Reed has looked rejuvenated in a forward-minded midfield role.

Man Utd to face weakened Fulham side

However, Fulham will be without one of their most important players on Sunday, in a welcome lift for Man Utd.

According to Sport Witness, who cite Serbian outlet Sportal, talismanic striker Mitrovic ‘will certainly miss’ the game against Man Utd.

Mitrovic was left out of Fulham’s recent 2-1 loss to Manchester City due to an ankle problem. And Silva will not risk the 28-year-old this weekend, either.

Silva will probably have to go with backup striker Carlos Vinicius up front. The former Tottenham loanee joined Fulham from Benfica for a reported £9.5million on September 1.

Man Utd’s defenders will be jumping for joy at not having to play Mitrovic. He has caused Prem centre-backs plenty of problems this season with his top-class finishing, aerial ability and brute strength.

The change means Ten Hag will have less concern about using diminutive centre-half Lisandro Martinez in west London. Ten Hag could also select a more attacking lineup against Fulham as he will not have to worry about their main goal threat.

The report also provides some information on whether Mitrovic will feature at the Qatar World Cup. He is hoping to represent Serbia in Group G against Brazil, Switzerland and Cameroon.

While Mitrovic will miss the visit of Man Utd, he is expected to be fit for Serbia’s opening match against Brazil on November 24.

Mitrovic could play alongside Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic. The former Arsenal transfer target is nursing an injury but, like Mitrovic, is confident about recovering in time for Serbia’s World Cup campaign.

It is likely Vlahovic will miss Juventus’ final game before the international tournament starts. After travelling to Hellas Verona on Thursday, they play Lazio at the Allianz Stadium on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are willing to let a Man Utd transfer target leave in January, according to a report.
