Chris Hughton believes Saturday's visit of promotion rivals Middlesbrough to St Andrew's could be just the tonic needed to kick-start Birmingham's promotion charge.
The Blues have recently seen their 15-game unbeaten run end and have also lost their undefeated home record to Nottingham Forest. However, Hughton feels that the next two games against Boro and Cardiff will prove vital.
"Maybe at this moment they're the type of games we need," Hughton said. "They're both big games, both at home for us.
"I suppose the way you look at it, the fact they're both teams who are up there are almost six-pointers as such - maybe that's the type of game we need at this particular moment."
Hughton continued: "That's two out of a group of games that are all going to be difficult and we need to make sure we get enough points.
"We do have a game in hand over some teams, we need to make sure that whichever way we do it we get enough points out of these final games to get us and keep us in that play-off position."
