Hugo Lloris has backed new Tottenham signing Clement Lenglet to hit the ground running and slot straight into Antonio Conte’s team.

Spurs have been one one of the most eye-catching Premier League teams in this summer’s transfer window. They have made five signings in a range of positions as they prepare for a return to the Champions League.

Wing-back Ivan Perisic arrived first, the Croatian winning Serie A with Conte at Inter. Midfielder Yves Bissouma then followed new back-up goalkeeper Fraser Forster into the ranks.

Former Everton striker Richarlison is Tottenham‘s biggest signing so far, costing £60million.

And lastly, Barcelona defender Lenglet has moved on loan to Spurs, who have an option to buy the Frenchman.

Lenglet has a strong relationship with France captain Lloris, who expects the defender to impress straight away.

“He’s a modern defender,” Lloris told the Daily Mail of his compatriot. “Comfortable to be able to play from the back.

“He has a great left foot and can be very strong in one v one and he’s strong in the air.

“Even if it’s never easy when you arrive in the Premier League and he will have to adapt to the intensity of the games but he is a high level player, with experience.

“I’m even more happy because I have a good connection with him and also a great relationship with him. He has a great personality and he will adapt well to the team.”

Lloris added that Lenglet is “working very hard” ahead of joining up with his new team-mates. His transfer last week meant he did not finalise his paperwork for Tottenham’s pre-season trip to South Korea.

Lenglet could follow in Romero, Tottenham footsteps

Tottenham, led on the transfer front by Fabio Paratici, have repeated themselves this summer and will hope for similar success.

Last summer, they brought in Atalanta centre-back Cristian Romero on a loan deal with an option to buy.

The Argentine impressed in his debut season in England, with Tottenham snapping up the chance to sign him perfectly. Indeed, Conte labelled Romero “perfect for the Premier League” earlier this year.

Spurs will hope Lenglet, who is three years older than Romero at 27, can also hit the ground running.

He has certainly played his part at Barcelona, picking up La Liga and Copa del Rey winners’ medals in 2019 and 2021, respectively.
