Hull City will face Doncaster Rovers at the MKM Stadium in the third round FA Cup, in a repeat of their first round Carabao Cup defeat to Grant McCann's South Yorkshire side last season.

Managerless City will hope to have a new manager in place by the time they face their former manager early in the New Year, with Andy Dawson currently in caretaker charge and will be for this weekend's visit of Blackburn Rovers unless an appointment is made in the next few days.

Before that clash at the MKM Stadium against McCann's promotion hopefuls, City will hope to pick up valuable points in games with Rovers, Watford, Coventry City, Swansea City, Preston North End, Blackburn again, Middlesbrough and Leeds United.

In a slight change to previous seasons, the third round will take place over the weekend of 11/12 January, which comes after successive home games against Boro and the Whites, and before the long trip to the capital to face Millwall at The Den. It's likely there will be a Friday night game, and potentially one on Monday, January 13, too. As has been well-documented, there will be no replays, so games will be decided on the day with penalties used, if needed.

Last term, Liam Rosenior's side needed a late Matty Jacob goal to earn a 1-1 draw with fellow Championship side Birmingham City at the MKM Stadium, before losing the replay 10 days later at St Andrew's, while in the two years before that, the Tigers were knocked out by Premier League opposition in Fulham and Everton.

In fact, since getting to the final in May 2014, City have only gone past the fourth round on two occasions, getting to the fifth before losing to Arsenal and Chelsea respectively.

City have already faced Rovers this season, with that meeting coming in pre-season, and in truth, it was one to forget. Tim Walter's side were thrashed 4-0 at the Keepmoat Stadium. City were also dumped out of the League Cup at the hands of McCann's side last August.
