Tim Walter says he’s not concerned that Hull City have dropped into the bottom three for the second time this season after losing 1-0 to Luton Town at Kenilworth Road on Saturday afternoon as the Tigers succumbed to their third successive defeat.

That victory for the Hatters moved them out of the drop zone at the expense of City, courtesy of Mark McGuinness’ goal from one of their ten corners 33 minutes into a nervy contest.

In a game of few clear-cut chances, Walter’s side carved out the best with Joao Pedro heading wide in the first half when he should have scored and poked at the post from Regan Slater’s cross in the second, but they were again undone by a lapse of concentration which cost them the game.

It’s now eight games without a win for Walter, who was subjected to jeers from the 1,100 away supporters at full-time as he trudged off down the tunnel to reflect on a seventh loss of an increasingly dismal campaign.

"Yes, we had a few chances, probably more than the opposition," Walter told Hull Live inside Kenilworth Road.

"It's the same, it's a replay from the other games that we played the last seven weeks, so what should I say at the end? They took one set piece to score, and we didn't. We weren't able to score, so that's the moment.

"What I saw is good character from my team because they fight until the end, and especially if you run backwards in the 96th minute, Regan Slater and Cody Drameh to clear the situation, that's all you can expect as a coach.

"And that's what they did. They fight, they try to fight against a loss, and that's important to have. They created chances, we had a lot of possession, we played a different style. We played, not just from the back short, we played long balls and I'm very happy about my team."

Though it took until 75 minutes for Kasey Palmer off the bench to have their first shot on target, Pedro's two chances should really have been gobbled up.

"They want to shoot them in, they want to score," he said of his players. "They sit in the dressing room, and they want to score, but on Tuesday, it's the next opportunity to score and to shoot goals. That's all I can expect. They still showed improvement, a lot of confidence and a lot of conviction, that's what I can see at the moment on the pitch."

On the subject of City being back in the dreaded drop zone after 16 games of the season, Walter was relaxed and said while he can understand fans' worries, he remains steadfast in his belief they'll pull away from trouble.

"No, for me, it's fine. Maybe for other ones who are not really inside the team, they maybe are a bit feared, for them maybe, but not for me because I have no fear. I'm very optimistic, and I'm a strong guy with a strong character, and I will bring them out (of the relegation zone)."
