Hull City were beaten 3-1 by play-off chasing Middlesbrough on Saturday as the Tigers suffered a fifth straight defeat to extend their winless run to 10 games.

Any hopes of an instant response to Tim Walter's sacked were blown out of the water by half-time at the Riverside Stadium, with Boro scoring two good goals through Finn Azaz and Tommy Conway.

To their credit, City stuck in the game and got themselves back in it with 20 minutes to go when Abu Kamara's cross to the back post was headed in by Mason Burstow, off the bench just a minute earlier, only for Conway to grab his second and put the game beyond any doubt.

Here's how Tigers reporter Barry Cooper rated the players at the Riverside Stadium in the early kick-off on Saturday....

Ivor Pandur: Could do nothing about either goal in fairness to the Croatian stopper. Made a smart stop to deny Lewie Coyle's own goal. Made a couple of other brilliant saves, well beaten by the third. 7.5/10

Cody Drameh: Had an absolute nightmare in the first half, ripped to pieces by Ben Doak time after time. You felt for the City man because that was a horror show, and it continued in the second half before he came off with what appeared to be an injury. 4/10

Sean McLoughlin: A rusty error early on needed help his old pal Alfie Jones. Struggled against the lively Boro attack. 5/10

Alfie Jones: Got McLoughlin out of a hole inside five minutes, but like the rest of the defence, found the going increasingly difficult. 5/10

Lewie Coyle: Booked in the first half for a shirt pull, which was ironic, given the referee missed the more obvious one on Joao Pedro. Did brilliantly to stop Boro making it 3-1 shortly after Burstow's goal. 5/10

Regan Slater: Some neat stuff early on before fading. Played his side into trouble outside his box on one occasion. Kept at it on a tough afternoon. 5/10

Kasey Palmer: Slow to get going but looked capable of making something happen and became more involved as the game wore on. Flashed a shot wide and delivered a brilliant free-kick which had no takers. 5/10

Xavier Simons: Made a crucial block to get Drameh out of jail and almost certainly stop a second before it eventually came. Struggled to get into the game and came off early in the second half. 5/10

Abdus Omur: Started really well with two or three good moments, and in truth, was one of the better performers on a day where City were well beaten. 5.5/10

Abu Kamara: Showed a moment or two with a couple of decent crosses, but going the other way, needed to help Drameh out more. Grew in confidence and his cross was perfect for Burstow to head in the net. Looked a man transformed in the second half. 6.5/10

Joao Pedro: Fouled early on by Borges in what should have been a red card for the Boro man, but is too slow to give City a real threat in behind. Just does not carry any danger whatsoever. 4/10

Subs:

Ryan Giles (for Drameh 54): Difficult task up against Ben Doak in fairness and it could have gone much worse than it did. Suspect we'll see more of him in the coming weeks. 6/10

Gustavo Puerta (for Simons 54): Showed a couple of nice touches, and some positive energy in the middle of the park. 6/10

Mason Burstow (for Palmer 65): An instant impact for the ex-Chelsea man heading in his first goal at the back post from Kamara's cross. Looked really lively and maybe that could be the kickstart to his Tigers career? 8/10

Chris Bedia (for Pedro 65): Showed great strength to break away from his own final third and get City on the attack. Looked decent and surely worthy of a start next weekend. 6/10

Marvin Mehlem (for Omur 83): Not much time in truth, with City chasing the game. Intrigued to see how he goes now under a different manager. 5/10
