A tremendous battling performance from Hull City saw them bag a crucial 1-0 away win at Millwall on Saturday, courtesy of an own goal.

The visitors took the lead two minutes before the hour when Regan Slater's cross inside the box on the right was turned into his own net by Lions skipper Jake Cooper under pressure from Joao Pedro.

In a scrappy affair, City battled hard and deservedly claimed a second win in three Championship games.

Here's how Tigers reporter Barry Cooper rated the players at The Den in Saturday's early kick-off....

Carl Rushworth: A first league start of the season for the Brighton loanee and made a smart low save inside five minutes to warm him up. Didn't have much to do after that, but what he had to do, he did really well. 7.5/10

Sean McLoughlin: Shifted across to left-back for the day, made a crucial block inside his own penalty area early on from another Millwall free-kick. Barely put a foot wrong all afternoon. 8/10

Fin Burns: His first league start since Sheffield United in September, and he had a difficult battle with the massive Mihailo Ivanovic. Grew into the contest and was very solid. 8/10

Alfie Jones: Faultess in the first period, and got his side out of jail on a couple of occasions. That continued in the second half. Skipper in the absence of Coyle and delivered a captain's performance. 9/10

Lewie Coyle: Started really well defensively, had a left-footed effort on target and then won a crunching tackle just inside his own half, coming off worse and had to be replaced by Cody Drameh in what was another injury blow for the manager. 6/10

Regan Slater: A lively, battling display in the first period, Industrious in the middle of the park. His bursting run set up the goal, he also could have scored from Gelhardt's pass when his shot went wide. There was another fifty yard run which almost yielded a chance. 8/10

Gustavo Puerta: Showed some lovely footwork in the first period to try and fashion an attack, and looked a class act on the ball when he had the chance. 7/10

Steven Alzate: So easy on the eye, and does things with little fuss. Solid and dependable on the ball. A brilliant display inh the middle of the park. 8/10

Mason Burstow: Was up against Japhet Tanganga but did get some joy in the first half. Worked hard in the game but little came off for him. 6/10

Abu Kamara: Fed by Pedro, saw an early shot well saved by the goalkeeper when he might have done a little better. 6/10

Joao Pedro: Battled hard in the first period without any real reward, couldn't get on the end of a couple of threatening balls into the box. Never stopped running all afternoon. 6.5/10

Subs:

Cody Drameh (for Coyle 23): Put in a belter of a cross straight after coming on but there were no takers. Defended like an absolute dog. 8/10

Joe Gelhardt (for Burstow 62): Straight into the action, he fed Slater who fired wide from the edge of the box. Picked up a clever booking late on. 6/10

Matt Crooks (for Puerta 81): Left the home fans furious as he messed around with some jewellery before coming on, and that only helped City's cause. 6/10

Nordin Amrabat (for Kamara 81): Certainly put himself about. Gave away a foul but won a few, especially in stoppage time. Was through on goal, pulled down, and was penalised, which was harsh. 6/10
