Wigan head coach Matt Peet says the clash against Hull was ‘ideal preparation’ for their Challenge Cup final against Huddersfield next Saturday.

Despite a slow start going down 12-0, Wigan were 18-all early in the second half and threatened a late comeback against Hull.

However, a late Chris Satae try secured a 31-22 win for the hosts, their eighth of the campaign.

Despite the result, Peet remained upbeat about his side’s performance ahead of next week. The Warriors will travel to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to face the Giants in the prestigious cup final.

Wigan boss remains positive following defeat

“I feel like we’re a team that plays every minute of the game and right to the end,” he said.

“Some of our energy and effort was really good but we didn’t quite get it right at the start and there were some lapses in concentration in there rather than lack of desire which is something we can fix.

“It was a quality game today and an intense game; ideal preparation for next week.”

Adam Swift scored an early brace inside 13 minutes, while Darnell McIntosh also crossed in-between at the MKM Stadium.

And Wigan coach Matt Peet admitted his side’s start cost them dearly. However, he was ultimately happy with the effort his players showed to fight for the full 80 minutes.

“They were dominant at the start and we were dominant in the middle, but in the end it didn’t go our way. Overall, I was really happy with our mentality after a poor start,” Peet added.

“There are lessons you’ve got to learn after games like that, but you’ve got to stay positive and I really liked the feel and effort of the team. We showed a lot of commitment against a good Hull team.”
