Hull FC half-back Jack Charles has revealed that his hamstring injury will see him out for around ten weeks. However, the 18-year-old is already three weeks into his rehab and progressing well.

The first real injury of his young career, Charles has got his head around the blow and is even looking to shave a couple of weeks off his recovery time, putting him back into action around the new year period. However, he will make sure he is fully fit once again before returning to pre-season training.

The teenager impressed new head coach John Cartwright early on, having worked hard on his game in the off-season. He made 17 first-grade appearances this year in what was his debut season, with Charles keen to get himself in check after the setback.

"I did it in the first week," he told Hull Live. "On my day off, I went in and did some extra stuff, and then the next day I was doing some skill drills, I took off, and I felt a bit of a pop. It's unfortunate, but that's rugby league. I've got my head around it now, and I realise what I've got to do to get back and come back stronger.

"It's a grade three tear I've got, so it's about ten weeks. I was pretty gutted at first; I've never really had an injury before; this is my first one, but I understand what I need to do now to get fitter, stronger, and faster. I'll do absolutely everything I can to get back.

"I reckon I can shave a couple of weeks off. 10 weeks is the maximum, but if I do everything right, I can maybe get back a bit earlier, but I don't want to rush it either and make it a reoccurring thing. I'll just tick every box I can and leave no stone unturned."

Charles' injury means he is getting acquainted with Hull's new head physiotherapist, Andy Shea. Joining from Newcastle Falcons, Shea has come to the club with a strong reputation, with the player impressed with his methods so far.

"Andy has been really good," Charles added. "He was checking if I was alright mentally too; you come back to pre-season, and the last thing you want is an injury, but he's been really good on a personal level. You can tell he knows his stuff as well. He's been teaching me things that I have never even heard of. I'm in good hands, and I know he'll get me back fit and firing."
