Hull FC handed Sneyd and Cross boost as Salford cap and quota dispensation call made
Hull FC have been put in a stronger position to recruit their Salford Red Devils-based targets after Super League clubs voted against granting dispensations on both the salary cap and quota rules to sign the Red Devils' players.
Rugby League Live reported last week that clubs were weighing up whether to allow dispensations for both the cap and quota, with a 'firesale' on the verge for Salford players given well-documented financial issues this off-season. However, those proposals have been rejected, putting Hull, who do have salary cap space available, in the driving seat.
As exclusively reported by Hull Live last week, they are on the hunt for both Marc Sneyd and Deon Cross, with the rejection of dispensations cooling off some other club's interest in Salford players, and in turn, helping Hull's cause. Hull KR were thought to be in for Nene Macdonald and Leeds for Kallum Watkins, but neither deal will now happen.

As for Cross, Hull Live understands there was other interest from at least one Super League club, while Leigh Leopards have also been reported elsewhere to have an interest in Sneyd. Again, the deals are not completed, but there is a strong desire from Hull to make them happen.
The Red Devils, meanwhile, are still hoping to secure investment, but that has not come to fruition. That leaves clubs in the market for their players, with Hull well-known to have the salary cap to further recruit. They acquired prop forward Hugo Salabio from Huddersfield Giants last month, but given Jordan Abdull's recent departure from the club, they have more room to work with.
They are still hoping to finalise both deals, with transfer fees expected to be paid should the 'firesale' take place. Elsewhere, it's understood that Castleford Tigers, Huddersfield Giants, Wakefield Trinity, and Warrington Wolves all have cap space, with Huddersfield and Wakefield also having a quota spot.
