Hull FC have officially confirmed that marquee half-back Josh Reynolds has left the club with immediate effect.

The 33-year-old joined the Black and Whites on a two-year deal ahead of the 2021 season, with the option of a third in the club’s favour.

But Reynolds’ time at FC has come to an abrupt end. He scored seven tries in 25 appearances for the Super League club.

A club statement read: “Both parties have mutually agreed that the Australian will not be staying with the club for the 2023 Betfred Super League season.

“As a result of that agreement, the club has further agreed with the player that he can depart immediately to open up pathways for future talent in the squad.

“The club would like to thank Josh for his efforts, whilst wishing him luck for the future.”

Brett Hodgson on Josh Reynolds

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Hull coach Brett Hodgson revealed that the club would dip into the transfer market to see if they can bring someone in to replace Reynolds.

Hodgson said: “I think both parties would have wanted a little bit more. I think Josh came over with the right intent and he tried hard. But unfortunately it is just not working at the minute.

“It just hasn’t worked out how we all would have liked.

“Confidence is a big factor when anyone is playing. I think Josh lost a bit of confidence after some injuries and I don’t believe he was playing his best footy. I think he’ll admit that as well.

I’ve always said that I want to promote from within but that doesn’t mean we won’t look for a replacement though.

“We would like to bring in someone if they are going to add quality; and if they can continue to help us to get to where we want to get to.”
