Hull Kingston Rovers had five of their new signings taking part in a pre-season field session together on Friday for the first time - with the club's new 3G pitch being used.

With testing - which sees where they are physically - being done previously, it was time for field work as Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, Tom Davies, Lee Kershaw, Bill Leyland and Eribe Doro all familiarised themselves with their new surroundings. As had been pre-planned, Rhyse Martin and Micky McIlorum will arrive on December 9.

Tyrone May will link up with the squad in early January, being back home in Australia ahead of the birth of him and his partner's child.

With so many new faces around, Hull KR captain Elliot Minchella said: "The recruitment has been great over the last two or three years. Paul Lakin and Willie (Peters), who do that, are getting it right. As a player, it's what you want. I've got every trust in them and every faith in them - and they know what they are doing more than me! As a player, you want to play with the best players and it's exciting."

Discussing the 3G facility, he said: "It's been really good, it's the first time I've seen it in person. It's handy for us as players, everything being on site. It's great that the community can use it as well. It gives an outlet for kids and other sports teams in the area. Me, as a kid, I played football and rugby and during the winter months it'll enable people to play sports."

Asked about needing the drive to kick on after Grand Final defeat, Minchella said: "That's the feeling I've got and no doubt the rest of the lads have it. When you get so close to something and it's within touching distance, you want it even more. You've got to use that as motivation. But every other team will be going after the same thing.

"We had a taste of the final and we want to be up there again and that's exciting for me. We're not a surprise any more, people know what we're about, so that's exciting. We want to back it up and be consistent."
