Hull KR confirm extent of Sam Luckley injury issue and return date
Hull Kingston Rovers forward Sam Luckley has had wrist surgery that means he will have to wait 10 weeks before returning to full training.
That means that he is not due to fully train until close to the time that the new Super League season gets under way - missing out on the benefits of a full pre-season that many of his team-mates will have. The 29-year-old is definitely ruled out of the pre-season Amsterdam Challenge match against York Knights on January 25. A 10-week absence from full training would mean that he returns to it at the start of the second week of February, which is the week leading up to Hull KR's first Super League game of the season, at home against Castleford Tigers on February 14.
Similar to team-mate Mikey Lewis, who has had a groin problem, it had been decided that Luckley would have surgery before pre-season. While Lewis' minor operation has not ruled him out of the full pre-season campaign, that has not been the case with Luckley. Luckley had the surgery following his holiday when he visited Nashville in the United States.

But the forward's cast will be off in the coming weeks, meaning that he can begin aspects of pre-season. It is a blow for him considering the calibre of competition that there will be at Rovers for 2025 following their recruitment drive. Luckley featured regularly off the bench during the 2024 campaign as the Robins reached the Grand Final. The former Salford Red Devils player appeared in all 12 of the games in the run-in.
