Hull KR have been hit with a further squad blow with forward Sam Royle returning to parent club St Helens.

Royle, 22, joined Danny McGuire’s squad initially on a two-week loan earlier in July. That was later extended until the end of the current season. However, he has been recalled by Kristian Woolf due to injuries at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

The back-rower made his debut in the 15-10 win over Wakefield and was also involved in victory against Warrington at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Royle was named in the starting XIII in the 46-4 defeat to Wigan at the DW Stadium, which saw Hull KR pick up further injuries.

St Helens lost both Regan Grace and Curtis Sironen to injuries during their 44-12 loss to Salford on Sunday. Sione Mata’utia will serve the final match of his three game suspension this Sunday against Castleford.

Woolf has also been without the likes of Will Hopoate, Tommy Makinson and Mark Percival in recent weeks, forcing him to recall Royle from Craven Park.

Another blow for Hull KR

The side will be without full-back Lachlan Coote for this Thursday’s home clash against Toulouse due to a failing his head injury assessment against Wigan.

McGuire also all but confirmed that Will Dagger’s season is over with a ruptured achilles.

However, there is some good news to report on for Hull KR. They could welcome back captain Shaun Kenny-Dowall for Thursday’s Super League clash. Frankie Halton, Albert Vete, Jimmy Keinhorst and Korbin Sims could also all return for the fixture at Craven Park.

Youngsters Connor Moore and Charlie Cavanaugh picked up injuries on their debuts against Wigan.
