Championship club Newcastle Thunder have signed young half-back Jack Potter on a one-month loan deal from Super League side Hull KR.

The playmaker joins his Hull KR team-mates Dan Okoro and Connor Moore in joining the Thunder on loan as momentum builds for the 2023 Championship campaign.

Potter was one of seven academy graduates to make the step up to Willie Peters’ first team squad for 2023.

Thunder expecting good things from Jack Potter

Newcastle coach Chris Thorman said: “From what I’ve seen and who I’ve spoken to, Jack is held in pretty high regard.

“He went on Hull KR’s pre-season camp to Tenerife and I think that shows where he stands in their group.

“From our point of view, he’s playing in a position we’re looking to strengthen and improve our strength in depth.

“It’s a great opportunity for us to have a look at him and have him experience our environment.

“We’re looking forward to working with Jack and keen to get started with him.

“We’ve already had two players join on loan from Hull KR in Dan Okoro and Connor Moore; and they speak highly of Jack, so we’re expecting good things.”

Hull KR have tied down rising star Phoenix Laulu-Togaga’e to a new deal that will see him remain at Craven Park until at least the end of 2025.

The 19-year-old has made seven first team appearances for the Robins since arriving in 2021 from Keighley, where he played alongside his dad Quentin.

Laulu-Togaga’e is a highly-rated youngster in the game, being able to play full-back, hooker and half-back.

Hull KR coach Willie Peters said: “Phoenix is only 19; and he was identified early on as a player we want to retain.

“It’s exciting for the club that he’s resigned for a further two years so he can continue his development with us during his formative years.

“Already, Phoenix has improved in such a small space of time since we started pre-season; and we’re delighted to reward that effort with a new deal.

“This is only his (PLT) second year in a full-time environment. We hope to continue to see him develop and mature in those surroundings for the next two years and beyond.”
