Hull KR interim head coach Danny McGuire believes his side can start looking towards the play-offs following their 15-10 victory over Wakefield.

Rovers were behind 4-0 at the break before tries from Jimmy Keinhorst, Ethan Ryan and Lachlan Coote, while Will Dagger kicked a drop-goal.

The victory sees them with 16 points on the table, just two points behind sixth-placed Castleford. Paul Rowley’s Salford have also claimed eight wins alongside the Robins and sit just above in seventh spot thanks to points difference.

Hull KR eyeing up play-off spot

“We’re obviously relieved to get the win, it was a bit tense at the end,” said McGuire.

“We were way off in the first half and I told them that at half-time. It’s probably the most aggressive I’ve been as a coach, but the players responded to that really well.

“Conditions were tough. We can’t get away from that, but Wakey carried with intent and put us on our back more.

“Our passing was poor, kicking game dire, but you’ve got to give our players credit for getting the job done.

“I’m very pleased with the response and I think we’ve got to look up the table now.

“We’re not too far away from where we want to be. If we can string a few games together, we can be in the mix.”

The win marks McGuire’s first since taking charge of the club following Tony Smith’s departure.

He added: “I’m buzzing.

“I’m investing a lot of time into this role, taking some time away from my family.

“I’m trying to get the players to do what’s important, which is winning on a weekend. Personally, I’m delighted for them that we were able to sing our victory song today.”
