The injury sustained to Frankie Halton isn’t as bad as first feared says interim head coach Danny McGuire.

The Ireland international left the field just seven minutes into the Magic Weekend derby clash against rivals Hull.

It was first feared that the back-rower had suffered a fractured collarbone. However, scans this week have revealed positive news for an already-injury hit Hull KR.

“It’s a little bit better than first thought,” said McGuire.

“I was told at the time that he had fractured his collarbone or something along those lines.

“I was probably a little bit quick to write him off at the weekend. He’s got an AC collarbone issue.

“He’s had an X-ray and there’s no fracture there. They’re thinking more ligament or bad bone bruising type injury.

“The signs are it could be a lot better than we first thought. I was probably a bit too over eager to write off Frankie Halton there. He’s a tough kid and I’m sure when it settles he’ll put his hand up to get back out there.”

Meanwhile, the club have added St Helens back-rower Sam Royle on a two-game loan.

Rovers injury update

Hull KR could be without prop forward Albert Vete for their home game against Wakefield on Sunday. However, McGuire is hopeful of welcoming back two key players for the clash at Craven Park.

“Albert [Vete] is still struggling with his groin,” said McGuire. “He’s a bit sore and he’s having a scan.

“George King and Ryan Hall, I’m confident that they’ll put themselves forward this week. I think as a coach, you’d never put pressure on players, they’ve got to tick all the boxes to get themselves fit. But I’m pretty confident that we’ll have a good chance of seeing both of them at the weekend.”

Matty Storton continues to be sidelined with a toe injury, while McGuire confirmed that Kane Linnett is still at least a month away from making his return.
