Head coach Tony Smith has confirmed that Jordan Abdull’s season could be over for Hull KR.

Abdull, 26, suffered a quad injury during the club’s defeat to Huddersfield in the Challenge Cup. The England international left the field during the later stages of the clash at Elland Road on Saturday.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, head coach Smith confirmed that his star man is set for surgery on the injury.

“Jordan’s the worst of them in terms of injury,” Smith said.

“He saw a consultant last night and he has got a significant tear in his quad and a little bit of the ligament in his quad.

“I’m not a physio or a medical person, but that’s my understanding of it.

“It can either be a lengthy repair by itself but not guaranteed it’s going to recover. Or a lengthy repair with surgery that is going to be more guaranteed. That’s where it’s at.

“Jordan will probably get the operation which will end his season. It’s a blow for the club and for Jordan. It’s about a 16-week recovery for that kind of operation.”

On the injured back-rower Kane Linnett, Smith added: “Kane is a 10-12 week recovery from an operation on his bicep. We’re hoping to get that done this week which will get him back just prior to the finals if all went well.”

Elliott Minchella is set to return quicker than expected and is only likely to miss a week. He suffered an ankle ligament injury late in the game and was first reported to miss up to six weeks of action.

The Hull KR boss is also hopeful that youngster Mikey Lewis will return between two-to-three weeks.
