Chelsea star Ian Maatsen has admitted he is yet to decide on his future at the club despite signing a new contract extension until January 2026.

The versatile left-back is currently on loan at Borussia Dortmund after joining them in January. Maatsen started just one Premier League game in the first half of the season under Mauricio Pochettino, despite impressing during pre-season.

At Dortmund, the 22-year-old has returned to the form he managed with Burnley in the Championship. He has played regularly in Germany and has played in every minute of their UEFA Champions League knockout games.

Dortmund are keen on making the move permanent, with Maatsen's £35m release clause tempting them. However, the left-back has claimed he isn't sure what the future holds. "I still have a contract and after the summer we're going to decide where my future is going to be," he said when asked where he'll be next term.

"I know I came here to Dortmund to prove myself that I can play on the highest level and the highest stage and that's what I'm doing now.

Maatsen's future could very well be at Stamford Bridge if imminent head coach Enzo Maresca is appointed. As has been reported in the last few days, the Italian like to bring a full-back inside and join midfield, meaning Maatsen could prove crucial.

However, the Dutchman has revealed he has yet to discuss his future with the club. "No, not yet," he said. "They came a couple of times to Dortmund to just see how I am and they're happy with my development."
