Rangers outcast Ianis Hagi has been told he made a mistake by joining Alaves on loan last summer.

The Romanian playmaker is due back at Ibrox this summer after a disappointing season-long stint in La Liga. The 25-year-old contributed just two goals and one assist in 28 appearances for Alaves, starting just ten matches. Now, he'll attempt to force his way into Philippe Clement's plans when he returns to Glasgow for pre-season.

However, critics in Hagi's homeland claim the former Genk star should never have left Gers in the first place. Former goalkeeper Razvan Plesca told the Romanian Football Show: "I think it was an uninspired decision.

"He had to stay because Rangers also played in the Europa League, they also have the Scottish Cup and the Scottish League Cup, after the coach changed. I think he would have certainly caught more moments at Rangers than he did at Alaves."

Hagi still has two years to run on his Rangers contract but could be offloaded permanently this summer as the Light Blues look to recoup the £4million they shelled out for his services in 2020.
