Mixing the fun and serious in Ibiza - Ibiza Polo Club

From wedding cups to corporate tournaments, Ibiza Polo Club prides itself on mixing a laid back style with serious sport.

What is the USP of Ibiza Polo Club?

It is, indeed, Ibiza itself. Just two hours from London, with all year round polo and 300 days of sunshine. What more can you ask for?

Is it serious polo, or is there the lure of clubs and bars?

The polo is serious here. The club owners, members and players are more than dedicated, but it does mean that non-playing partners can always find something to do here.

What is the standard of play in Ibiza?

The standard of play is low goal, friendly polo, although we have visiting high goal players throughout the season.

Where are competing teams arriving from?

Our teams are currently composed of 60 per cent British, 20 per cent German and 20 per cent Argentinian.

What is the history of the club?

The club was founded by Gabrielle Ingelsias, following the success of the Beach Polo tournaments that he had brought to Ibiza (firstly in 2010, and attended by Adolfo Cambiaso in 2011 & 2012). Gabrielle saw that the one thing Ibiza was lacking for its discerning visitors was a polo club. Ibiza and polo are the perfect combination.

Are you seeing an increase in player/membership?

We have seen a year-on-year rise in the number of, not only new members to the club, but of international pro players coming to play here too. The word is spreading throughout the polo community that Ibiza polo is up and coming, and our holiday and polo school packages are becoming popular. We pride ourselves on offering friendly polo, all year round on an amazing island, building bespoke packages to accommodate each player's needs.

What are you doing to achieve this?

We have around 12 scheduled tournaments for 2017, but others will be added to that, including a wedding cup tournament and corporate tournaments.

The lowdown

- Our non rider to playing friendly, indoor chukkas package starts from £1210

- Our residential Polo School package starts from just £1300 per person
