Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate has leaped to the defense of his France teammate William Saliba, who has taken his place in the national team during Euro 2024.

Ahead of France taking on Spain in the first semifinal on Tuesday, Konate has suggested that he still isn't at 100 percent fitness and shown support for Saliba, the highly-rated Arsenal ace. It is the Gunners man who has been partnering Bayern Munich star Dayot Upamecano for Didier Deschamps' side.

"My brother stop doing that," he replied to a Liverpool fan on X. "Saliba is so good and he’s my brother! He deserves all this! So let's be happy for! Thank you for supporting me I wasn't 100% that's all. Now we have to go to the final."

The Liverpool and Konate supporter had highlighted a mistake that Saliba had made as evidence that the Reds' number five should be ahead of him in the pecking order. But Konate laughed off such a suggestion.

So far, France has been similarly as disappointing as England when it comes to performances in Germany. But like Gareth Southgate's team, it keeps winning and will not care how it plays if it ends up lifting the trophy next weekend.

Konate is yet to play a minute for his country and missed out on the final few matches of the Jurgen Klopp era at Anfield because he lost his place to Jarell Quansah. Arne Slot will have to decide who starts the new Premier League campaign in just over a month with Quansah having returned for pre-season training yesterday.

Liverpool.com says: No one should have any complaints about Saliba being in the France team. He is superb, but it is Upamecano who Konate has a better shout of being ahead of in the pecking order. The Bayern Munich star is a trusted player of Deschamps' but he never looked completely at ease at the back. A peak Konate is definitely a better player than him.
