Star England all-rounder Ben Stokes is likely to miss from the team’s squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021 to be played next month in United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The 30-year-old player took an immediate break from the game in order to prioritize his mental health condition and be alongside his family during that period, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed on July 30.

Since then the board has been quite supportive to the player to ensure he recovers in his good state of mind and the all-rounder missed the ongoing Test series against India. Stokes was ruled out of the IPL 2021 for Rajasthan Royals after he injured his left index finger.

But yet, he captained England against Pakistan in a three-match ODI series after the main squad had to go under quarantine because several COVID-19 cases were detected.

Stokes led a bunch of inexperienced players against full-strength Pakistan to whitewash them 3-0 which discovered England’s bench strength in unusual times.

However, there is no word from the Canterbury-born cricketer about his return to the game and it seems that ECB is expected to name a 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup on Friday.

“Stokes is not even thinking about cricket at the moment”, a source close to the player was quoted by Daily Mail.

England head coach Chris Silverwood said there is no rush to call for Ben Stokes

In fact, after England lost the second Test at Lord’s, there were a lot of speculations about the team management trying to recall the all-rounder back in the team. But head coach Chris Silverwood publicly cleared that they won’t rush in Stokes’ case as they wanted to give him time to sought out his issues and once the player feels like playing, he can inform the board about his decision.

England are paired with Australia, West Indies, and South Africa, and two other teams in the Group 1 of the Super 12 stage. They play their first fixture against defending champions West Indies on October 23 in Dubai.
