ICC T20 World Cup 2021: Scotland Announce Their Team For The Tournament

The Scotland Men’s Head Coach Shane Burger has announced the national squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup which will take place in the UAE and Oman in October. The tournament will begin on October 17 and the final will be played on November 14. The matches are scheduled to be played in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Oman.

Kyle Coetzer has been named the captain of the Scotland team. Richard Berrington was named the vice-captain and the squad features a number of hugely experienced players including Calum Macleod, Safyaan Sharif, Matthew Cross, and Ally Evans who have more than 1000 caps for Scotland between them.

Several players like Josh Davey, Michael Leask, George Munsey, and Mark Watt, who played in the last edition of the T20 World Cup in 2016, have also been selected for the upcoming tournament. On the other hand, Dylan Budge, Chris Greaves, Oli Hairs, Chris Sole, Hamza Tahir, Craig Wallace, and Brad Wheal are all attending their first World Cup.

Jonathan Trott Joins Scotland Team As Batting Lead

Scotland’s spirits were increased as they welcomes former England batsman Jonathan Trott as the team’s batting lead.

“What we have in Jonathan Trott is great knowledge and experience of high performance environments. He’s played in World Cups, Ashes Series and travelled to many destinations around the world. He also understands the demands and high pressures of international sport and the environments that they bring with them and it’ll be fantastic to have him as a support in the build up to the World Cup,” Scotland coach Shane Burger said.

On the squad, Burger said: “This squad has worked hard over a long period of time now and deserves the opportunity to show the world what we are about. This is an experienced, versatile and exciting group of players and we’re looking forward to embracing the challenges ahead as a team.”

Scotland has been placed in Group B of round 1 along with Bangladesh, Oman, and Papua New Guinea. They will play Bangladesh in their first match of the tournament on October 17 in Oman’s Oman Cricket Academy Ground, Al Amarat.
