Igor Svirid and Vitaly Bigdash Make Weight Ahead of ONE: Tigers of Asia Title Fight

Reigning ONE Championship middleweight champion Igor Svirid will put his belt on the line against undefeated opponent Vitaly Bigdash in Kuala Lumpur on Friday night (local time). Their middleweight title fight will be the main event at Stadium Putra and both men made weight at the first attempt.

Svirid (10-1) will be making the first defense of the belt he won just under a year ago. The Kazakh tipped the scales at 184 pounds.

He had the following words for the Russian challenger: “I respect all men who have the courage to step inside the cage, but the ONE Middleweight World Championship is mine and I’m not leaving without it. I’m ready to show the world that my reign on top of this division will be long and dominant.”

Bigdash (7-0) comes from a Karate background and has finished all seven of his opponents. He is making his promotional debut, but says he is confident of snatching the belt from Svirid.

“To be the man you have to beat the man, and that’s what I’m here to accomplish against Igor Svirid,” said Bigdash. “My time has come and I’m ready to take that belt with my bare hands. I’m excited to show everyone exactly what I can do inside the ONE cage.”

The only fighter to miss weight was Malaysia’s Ev Ting (9-3), who came in at 147 pounds ahead of his featherweight bout with former champion Honorio Banario (8-4). The Filipino had no such problems, stepping on the scale at 144.5 pounds, as he looks to snap a four-fight losing streak.

In the other big fights, Peter Davis (10-3) and Adrian Pang (21-8-2) both made weight at the first attempt ahead of their lightweight clash, while featherweights Eric Kelly (11-1) and Hiroshige Tanaka (10-2) both came in bang-on at 155 pounds.
