IHSAA girls sectional pairing announced

Jan. 22—Girls basketball sectional season is just around the corner. The IHSAA draw was posted Sunday night for girls' basketball. Area teams will see action in three sectionals.

Washington will play in 3A Sectional 31 at Southridge. The Lady Hatchets will open in the first game on Tuesday against host Southridge, followed by Heritage Hills and Vincennes Lincoln. On Friday, Princeton will play the winner of Game 1, while Pike Central will take on the winner of Game 2, with the championship on Saturday.

North Daviess will play in the very tough 2A Sectional 47 at North Knox. In the first game on Tuesday, Mitchell will play Paoli, followed by ND and Linton.

On Wednesday, North Knox will play Sullivan and South Knox will play Eastern. On Friday, the winners of Game 1 will play the winners of Game 2, while the winners of Game 3 will play the winners of Game 4, with the championship on Saturday.

In the Class A Sectional 63, hosted by Barr-Reeve, Washington Catholic will play Vincennes Rivet on Tuesday in the night's only game, while Loogootee and Barr-Reeve will open Wednesday's action, followed by Springs Valley and Shoals. On Friday, the winner of Game 1 will take on Orleans, while the winners of Game 2 and 3 also meet. The championship will be on Saturday.

Regionals will begin on Saturday, Feb. 10. For the second year, the regional is a single game championship, and the semi-state a two-game affair with the winner advancing to the state championship game. Two regional championship games will be played back-to-back at the same site with the winners finding out their next opponent and host site the following day. The semi-state games — scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 17 — will be randomly drawn and announced in a special pairing show via IHSAAtv.org.
