Before the start of the day, England had a slight upper hand. But the 89* run stand between Mohammad Shami and Jasprit Bumrah put India into the driver’s seat. England needed 272 to win in a minimum of 60 overs on the last day. Chasing 272, Indian bowlers started with a bang, sending back both the openers in just two overs. The whole Indian team was pumped up.

Ishant Sharma took two wickets with his traditional inswingers just before the tea break and put India upfront. Bumrah sent back Root with a perfect outswinger, and the hopes of England’s survival was looking in more danger now. Robinson and Buttler tried to build a partnership but Bumrah’s slower one from round the wicket sent Robinson back to Pavilion. And then Siraj came back and delivered the knockout punch.

A test match with lots of ebbs and flows saw many records broken over the last 5 days. Joe Root became the first England player to score hundreds in successive innings in Tests since Ian Bell in Ashes 2013. Rahul and Rohit also became the first visiting pair with a century stand in England since August 2016 and many more. So, let’s look at the records broken in the second test between India and England at Lord’s.

A historic win at Lord’s for India

1. Virat Kohli became the third Indian captain to win a Test match at Lord’s after Kapil Dev (1986), and MS Dhoni (2014).

2. A partnership of 89 runs between Shami and Jasprit Bumrah was India’s highest ninth-wicket partnership in England. India’s previous highest ninth-wicket stand in England was 66 between Kapil Dev and Madan Lal in June 1982.

3. Rahul and Rohit made a 126-run partnership in the first innings. This was the first-century stand-by Indian openers outside Asia in Tests since 2011.

4. This was also India’s first 100-run opening stand at Lord’s for the first time since 1952. Vinoo Mankad and Pankaj Roy were the last Indian opening pair to get a 100-run partnership in a Test match at Lord’s.

5. Mohammad Shami’s fifty in the second innings was the first Test fifty by an Indian player (number nine or lower) in SENA countries since 2014.

7. Moeen Ali became the seventh English spinner to take 100 wickets at home.

8. Sam Curran was dismissed for a golden duck in both innings (king pair). He became only the fifth player after Gary Troup, Adam Gilchrist, Javed Omar, and James Anderson to register a king pair against India.

9. James Anderson picked a fifer in the first innings and became the oldest pacer (39 years 14 days) to take a five-for in Tests in the last 70 years since SA’s Geoff Chubb.

10. With India’s historic win at Lords’, Virat Kohli (37) has gone past Clive Lloyd on the all-time list of most wins as captain in Tests.

11. Mohammad Shami (56* off 70 balls) now has the highest Test score at Lord’s more than Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Ricky Ponting, Jacques Kallis, AB Devilliers, Cheteshwar Pujara.
